Sex Offender Charged and Arrested After Failing to Register in Porter County
Porter County- A Manteno man has been charged and arrested after court documents state he failed to comply with sex offender registration requirements in Indiana.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 20, 2025, the Porter County Sheriff’s Office received a tip through Offender Watch indicating that Jimmy D. Davis Jr. had moved out of his registered residence a few months earlier.
On July 14, 2025, an investigator went to the listed address and spoke with the current residents, who stated they had moved in around April and did not know anyone named Jimmy Davis.
Court documents state Davis was convicted on May 22, 2009, in Will County, Illinois, of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse involving a 13-year-old female acquaintance. He later moved to Porter County and registered on October 22, 2024. The Department of Correction classified Davis as a Sex Offender with a lifetime registration requirement and a Serious Sex Offender. The Illinois conviction is substantially similar to Sexual Misconduct with a Minor as a Level 5 Felony in Indiana.
A nationwide search in Offender Watch showed Davis still registered in Porter County, but a separate search in Illinois revealed he had registered in Manteno on April 3, 2025. Manteno Police confirmed the registration and provided a copy to investigators. His Illinois registration listed employment at Champs at Southlake Mall in Merrillville, Indiana, though no employment was listed for Davis in Indiana.
Investigators contacted Champs management, who confirmed Davis had been employed at the store since October 27, 2024. Management initially indicated he was using another name for employment before confirming his legal name. Court records also show a prior Sex Offender Registration Violation conviction dated October 17, 2024, in Will County, Illinois.
Charges filed July 16, 2025:
• Failure to Register as a Sex or Violent Offender — Level 6 Felony
• Failure to Register as a Sex or Violent Offender (with prior) — Level 5 Felony
Davis was lodged in the Porter County Jail on October 15, 2025.
