Sheriff Investigating Fatal Crash
Porter County Sheriff’s Officers responded to an unknown (later determined to be a two vehicle) crash on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at approximately 4:05 AM, at the intersection of State Road 49 / County Road 600 S, according to a Sheriff press release Sunday.
Initial investigation shows a passenger car, a 2020 Toyota, was traveling southbound on State Road 49 and a sport utility vehicle, a 2020 Ford, was traveling northbound on 49. The driver traveling northbound entered the southbound lane of travel, for an unknown reason, at the intersection with County Road 600 S and collided with the southbound vehicle.
The driver of the northbound vehicle was ejected and unfortunately passed away at the scene, the Sheriff’s Department stated. The driver of the passenger car had minor injuries and was transported to Northwest Health-Porter to be evaluated.
