Six Lake County Jail Inmates Charged After Coordinated Assault Inside Jail
Erich Dea Boone, 49; Emanuel Alexander Pugh Jr., 27; Rommell Lavell Donald Harris, 36; Xavier Alexander Schlueb, 25; Shakur D. Brewer, 24; and Noble Gene Uylaki are facing felony charges after investigators say they each played a role in a coordinated assault on another inmate on September 12, 2025, inside the Lake County Jail in Crown Point that resulted in serious bodily injury.
According to court records, corrections staff were alerted after an inmate was observed with fresh injuries to his face. A supervisor was radioed, and the inmate was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment. Investigators reported the inmate stated that his commissary, along with the commissary of other inmates in his housing unit, was extorted the day before the assault and that he had been threatened prior to the incident.
Probable cause affidavits state that jail surveillance video showed Erich Dea Boone entering House 2 at approximately 5:56 a.m. with his head and face completely concealed in white linen and assaulting the inmate before leaving the housing unit. Investigators later identified Boone as the first attacker.
Court records state that Noble Gene Uylaki entered House 2 at approximately 6:06 a.m. and also assaulted the inmate before leaving. Uylaki was later observed ordering all inmates to exit the housing unit except for the inmate who was assaulted. During this time, Shakur D. Brewer was seen standing in the doorway of House 2, preventing the inmate from leaving and trapping him inside the housing unit alone. Investigators reported that an unknown substance was thrown from a cup into House 2 during this sequence of events.
According to the affidavits, Rommell Lavell Donald Harris and Uylaki later entered House 2 together and simultaneously assaulted the inmate. During the continued assault, multiple inmates joined in, removed the inmate’s clothing items, and attempted to drag him out of House 2 and into the inmate range, which was outside the camera’s direct view.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed Emanuel Alexander Pugh Jr. stomping on the inmate while the assault continued in the hallway. The affidavits state Pugh later returned to his bunk and removed his face covering, revealing himself as the inmate observed stomping on the victim.
Court records further state that Xavier Alexander Schlueb was observed grabbing the inmate and assisting in pulling him into the hallway during the assault. Schlueb was also seen entering the inmate’s cell and taking multiple items from the inmate’s bunk after the assault.
Investigators reported that after the inmate made it back into his cell, Uylaki returned and threatened to kill him if he came back out. The inmate later told investigators he did not immediately report the assault out of fear.
Medical records reviewed during the investigation showed the inmate was treated for a periorbital contusion to his left eye, a laceration above his left eyebrow that required stitches, a head injury, neck pain, and a superficial injury to his left cornea.
After reviewing corrections reports and jail surveillance video, investigators identified Boone, Pugh, Harris, Schlueb, Brewer, and Uylaki as the six inmates involved in the assault.
