St. John Man Charged with Burglary, Auto Theft, and Battery on Paramedic

Allen Joseph Orourke, 31, of St. John, has been formally charged following an incident that took place on June 13, 2025. The incident began when police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 12100 block of West 108th Place around 11:34 p.m. A white Chrysler minivan had struck a tree, and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Soon after, officers were dispatched to the 11800 block of West 105th Place, where a resident reported a man banging on the front door and threatening to break in. The man was later seen unlawfully entering a nearby residence, where a physical altercation occurred with that homeowner.

According to court documents, officers located Orourke inside the home, where he resisted commands but was eventually taken into custody. He was observed bleeding from the forehead and exhibited erratic behavior, yelling that people were after him. While being treated at the scene and later during transport to the hospital, Orourke allegedly rubbed blood on a paramedic and spat on him.

Further investigation revealed that Orourke had taken a vehicle from a woman without permission earlier that night. She told police Orourke took her keys and cellphone and drove off without consent. The vehicle was later identified as the one involved in the crash. Orourke refused chemical testing at the hospital, prompting a warrant for a blood draw.

Police also noted Orourke had a prior auto theft conviction from 2020 in Lake County.

Charges were filed on June 14, 2025, in Lake County and include:

  • Burglary of a Dwelling – Level 4 Felony
  • Auto Theft with Prior – Level 5 Felony
