Stolen Car Pursuit Ends With Car Crashing Down An Overpass
At approximately 12 AM, Saturday, Munster Police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near 80/94 & Calumet Ave. The driver refused to stop and led police on a pursuit through Hammond.
The chase exited 80/94 on Indianapolis Blvd before heading down 169th to Cline Ave where the driver struck a guardrail on the overpass and flipped down the Cline Ave embankment. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was caught on the ramp to Cline Ave. The passenger was found unconscious with a serious head wound in the vehicle. Both were transported to area hospitals. The passenger is currently listed in serious condition but stable.
The Toyota Camry was found to be stolen out of Aurora, IL and wanted in other serious crimes. A handgun was also recovered from the scene.
Munster Police were assisted by Hammond, Highland, Lake County, Chicago Police Helicopter, and Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team.
