Stolen Dodge Crashes In EC With Numerous Key FOB’s & Electronics
On Thursday, 4-22-21 at approximately 3:52AM, East Chicago Uniformed Police Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the harbor section on a Dodge Durango gray in color bearing an Illinois license plate that was driving without their headlights or taillights operating, according to Lt. Brian Paine of The East Chicago Police.
The Dodge Durango fled from Officers at a high rate of speed and eventually crashed into a Chevy Equinox in the area of Michigan Ave and Canal St. Responding Officers observed several occupants in the Dodge Durango exit the vehicle and flee on foot, Paine told RNS. East Chicago Uniformed Police Officers apprehended one of the occupants and placed him under arrest.
Officers recovered multiple firearms, electronics, and numerous programmable key fobs for different style vehicles at the scene of the accident and within the Dodge Durango in plain view. The Dodge Durango was freshly stolen out of Illinois.
The East Chicago Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has begun a formal investigation into the incident and charges are pending currently. The East Chicago Police Department has also reached out to other law enforcement agencies, as well as, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Federal task force to which an ECPD Detective is currently assigned to assist in the investigation.
