Stolen Gun In St. John Leads To SWAT Call Out In Gary
Earlier this morning St. John Police assisted by the Northwest Regional SWAT Team executed a search warrant in the 600 Block of Martin Luther King Drive in Gary, according St. John Police.
On August 17, 2022 at about 11:30 PM, St. John Police responded to a complaint about a missing firearm at a residence in the 10400 Block of Douglas Drive in St. John. The complainant reported to officers that she believed that her 16 year old son found and took a handgun that had been given to her for her safety, by her boyfriend.
During the initial investigation, officers determined that the 16 year old juvenile son had in fact taken the firearm and had given it to his dad, who resides in Gary. The gun owner told officers that he wanted to report the gun as stolen. The juvenile was taken into custody and taken to the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center charged with Theft of a Firearm, a Level 5 Felony.
A search warrant was obtained for the father’s residence and it was also determined that the father was wanted on a failure to appear warrant, police told RNS. The father/suspect, Patrick B. Hollins, 55 of Gary was taken into custody on the warrant and confined at the Lake County Jail. The stolen handgun has not yet been recovered.
