Store Employee Accused Of Beating Customer

A Dollar General employee in Gary is accused of assaulting a 64-year-old driver who came in to pick up an order of Clorox wipes on July 5, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

According to court documents, the employee, identified as Sa Quan Dajon Kirksey, 25, allegedly told the customer, “You’re gonna regret asking me for help,” before striking him in the face. The man, working as a DoorDash driver, said Kirksey knocked him to the ground and struck him multiple times to his head and body. He told investigators he attempted to defend himself with plastic carts but was thrown down again and beaten further.

Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives showed Kirksey punching the man in the head area, continuing to strike him after he fell, and hitting him with a store basket while the customer’s back was turned. A store manager told police he did not see the initial punches but noticed baskets being thrown near the front registers before realizing a fight was underway. He attempted to intervene verbally and eventually called police.

The victim told investigators he went to Methodist Hospital Northlake later that evening, where medical staff diagnosed a concussion, contusions to his orbital area, clavicle, and abdominal wall, as well as a neck sprain and soft-tissue hematoma. He said he became dizzy during the assault and complained of pain to his head, eye, clavicle, abdomen, and back.

During a later interview, the victim said Kirksey mocked him during the attack, asking, “How does it feel to get beat up by a 20-year-old?” and later threatened him at the store entrance, saying, “Get out of my store before I beat your ass again.” The victim positively identified Kirksey in a photo array as the employee who assaulted him.
