Suspect In Dunkin Donuts Robbery Captured By Hobart K9
On Monday September 30, 2024, at approximately 7:37 PM, New Chicago Police Officers were dispatched to 328 W. 37th Ave (Dunkin Donuts) for an Armed Robbery in progress, according to New Chicago Police Chief Earl Mayo.
Witnesses stated that an older white male entered the establishment through the rear door with a knife and demanded money from the register. Employees stated that they could not open the register and eventually the male exited and was chased by store employees and several good samaritans.
The male ran Southwest through the parking lot crossing 37th Ave. New Chicago, Lake Station, and Hobart officers quickly surrounded the area and set a perimeter. The suspect was quickly apprehended by a Hobart K9 officer and his K9 partner. The male was later identified as Paul Freddie Cadle Jr from Lake Station and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center for medical attention after he sustained a dog bite. Once medically cleared the male was transported to the Lake County Jail.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has accepted the following charges:
COUNT I
ARMED ROBBERY – Level 3 Felony
COUNT II
CRIMINAL CONFINEMENT – Level 3 Felony
Chief Mayo thanked the officers from New Chicago, Lake Station, and Hobart Police Departments for their quick responses and effort into taking this male into custody. Chief Mayo also thanked the amazing work of Hobart PD’s K-9 unit and program.
