
Suspect Struck Griffith Officer Fleeing In Vehicle Friday
On the evening of October 10, 2025, a Griffith Police officer was injured during a traffic stop when a suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, running over the officer’s leg, according to Griffith Police. The incident occurred near the intersection of Broad Street and W Glen Park Avenue.
The suspect, identified as James Shasteen of Schererville, fled from the initial stop and was later located in Highland. Upon being confronted by Highland officers, the suspect exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended.
An inventory search of the suspect’s vehicle revealed multiple suspected narcotics, which tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine. The suspect admitted to using and possessing illegal substances earlier in the day. He was transported to the Lake County Jail.
James Shasteen has been charged with:
Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Serious Bodily Injury (Level 4 Felony)
Possession of Cocaine (Level 6 Felony)
Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor)
He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on a $50,000/$5,000 bond.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is currently recovering at home.
