Suspect Van From Shooting Of 10 Year Old Girl
Lake County Sheriff’s Department investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify a light blue minivan believed to be present during a shooting that wounded a 10-year-old girl Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
The incident happened at approximately 3:20 p.m. on the parking lot of a Dollar General store location in the 4100 block of Cleveland Street in an unincorporated section of Gary. According to witnesses, the girl was walking in the area with her two brothers; ages 13 and 14, and their two dogs. A man in a light blue minivan had pulled into the parking lot of the store. At some point, one of the dogs reportedly broke free and charged at the man, and the man opened fire. The bullets wounded the girl multiple times in both legs. The dog was uninjured. Lake County officers dispatched to the scene arrived to find the girl inside of the store. A firefighter rendered first aid and an officer assisted. The victim was transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital. She has been released from the hospital and is recovering.
The man believed to be connected with this incident is described as a heavyset black male.
