Teen Injured By Gunfire In Hammond

On January 1st, at approximately 1:55 a.m., Hammond police responded to Community Hospital Munster, in reference to an 18-year-old male who stated he was struck by a bullet in Hammond, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police.

The victim stated he was in the alley behind the 400 block of Florence Street when he heard two shots fired. The victim stated he did not see a person or a vehicle, Kellogg said. The bullet struck his forearm and his father drove him to Community Hospital for his injury. No additional information was immediately available and it is unclear at this time if it was a bullet shot into the air for NYE. Anyone with information may contact Hammond Police Det. Sgt.
