Three Hammond Officers Injured During Morning Pursuit

On November 10th, at approximately 5:51 AM, Hammond police were dispatched to the 5400 block of a Hohman Avenue in reference to subjects passed out in a vehicle, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police.

Upon arrival, officers observed three male subjects inside the vehicle with firearms. When officers approached and tried to speak with the individuals, they fled the area in their vehicle striking two police officer vehicles, Kellogg said.

Police pursued the suspects through the city and the pursuit ended at Inland Steel in East Chicago when the suspects hit a dead end. All three of the suspects had to be removed from the vehicle and placed in custody. Three officers were injured during the incident but are in fair condition, Kellogg reported. None of the suspects were injured.

One of the males is from Illinois, and two of the males are from Wisconsin (one with Hammond ties). The vehicle they were operating was stolen from Wisconsin and contained three firearms, one of which was reported stolen. All three subjects are 17-years-old and potentially face charges for resisting law-enforcement, burglary, criminal recklessness, auto theft, and possession of stolen items.
