Three Men Charged in Gary Property Burglary
Three men have been charged in connection with a June 24, 2025, burglary in Gary, Indiana, where thousands of dollars in construction materials and a central air unit were reported stolen from two residential properties undergoing renovation.
According to court documents, Gary police were dispatched around 7:48 p.m. to the 3900 block of Carolina Street after a caller reported seeing three men loading wooden boards and an air conditioning unit into a black Ford F-150 pickup truck. Officers located the vehicle in a nearby alley and detained two individuals inside. Two others were seen fleeing from the bed of the truck; one of them was apprehended a short time later.

Police identified the driver as Damontreal Lamar Carter, 43, and the front passenger as Larondo Thomas, 45. A third suspect, Calvin Collier Jr., 31, was located following a foot chase and taken into custody. Officers recovered construction lumber and a central air unit in the truck bed. The air unit had been cleanly cut from its original installation.
The property owner later informed police that both homes involved were being rehabbed as rental properties. One air conditioner had recently been installed at one address, and a second was in progress at the other. The lumber had been partially stored outside, but some pieces had been kept inside the basement. The total estimated loss was approximately $6,000, including $4,000 in lumber and $2,000 for the air conditioner, not including installation costs. The owner confirmed that no one had permission to enter the properties or remove materials.
