Tow Truck Driver Killed While Working On I290

A preliminary investigation by Illinois State Police revealed a tow truck driver now identified as Andrew Dove-Ferdere, 23, of Berkley was standing outside his tow truck with his emergency lights activated on the right shoulder towing vehicles involved in a prior crash on I-290 Eastbound at the 9th Ave exit Wednesday morning. A gray Nissan driven by a 49 year old female was traveling in the right lane and veered to the right striking the tow truck operator. The gray Nissan also struck the unoccupied gray Chrysler sedan parked ahead of the tow truck. All lanes were shut down for investigation at 6:16 a.m. and reopened at 9:42 a.m. The left shoulder remained open for traffic. The investigation is open and ongoing Illinois State Police said in a release.

The Tow Truck operator is from O’Hare Towing Services. O’Hare Towing released a statement on their Facebook page reminding drivers why slowing down and moving over is important for all vehicles.
