Tragic Accident Kills Crown Point Teen Saturday Night

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit was asked to reconstruct a crash that  killed a 13-year-old girl in the 4500 block of W. 113th Avenue in Crown Point sometime around 8 pm on Saturday (11-21-2020), according to Lake County Sheriff Office Spokeswoman Pamela Jones.

The 13-year-old was apparently leaning out of the window of a car being driven by her 18-year-old sister, police said. The vehicle was traveling down 113th when it ran off the road on a steep incline. The 13-year-old struck a utility pole and was dragged and thrown from the car, a release from the Sheriff’s Office stated.   Officers are investigating whether cell phone use may have been a factor in the crash.

The Lake County Coroner’s office has identified the deceased as a 13 year old female from Crown Point.

“The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit is conducting traffic reconstruction of this incident and the investigation continues,” said Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this extremely difficult time.”
