Tri-County Ambulance Stolen & Recovered
On Tuesday July 27th, 2021 at approximately 9:28 PM the Porter County 911 Center notified Portage officers that a Tri-County ambulance had just been stolen from the Family Express near US Highway 6 and State Road 149, Portage Police said. In response to this report Portage Officers increased patrols along the US Highway 6 corridor. At approximately 9:37 PM Portage Officers located the ambulance in front of Walmart (6087 US Highway 6) and found it to be unoccupied.
Additional Portage units responded and an area search was conducted. During this search, a passerby notified one of the officers of a suspicious person in the area of the now closed Dickie’s Bar-B-Que restaurant (6200 US Highway 6) at 9:45 PM. An adult male was located in this area at 9:47 PM and that person was briefly detained before being turned over to the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.
The Porter County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation and charges. Check back for updates later Wednesday.
