Two Dead After Crash On US 41 In Lake County
At approximately 11:30 AM, Saturday, June 4, 2022 Lake County Sheriff Officers were dispatched to a two vehicle crash on US 41 in front of Uncle John’s Flea Market, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
Preliminary information shows a passenger vehicle traveling southbound on US 41 attempted to cross northbound traffic to turn into Uncle John’s Flea Market. The passenger vehicle was struck by a minivan who was traveling northbound on US 41.
All four occupants of the passenger vehicle were transported to area hospitals including the driver who was transported to The University of Chicago. Two subjects from the passenger car, a 33 year old female and 12 year old female have succumbed to their injuries, Martinez told RNS. The names have since been released by the coroners office as Junemarie Voyles, 33 and Haley N. Watkins, 12. The fourth passenger, an 11 year old female is awake and stable at a local hospital. The driver of the minivan was treated and released on scene.
The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff Reconstruction Unit. Assisting at the scene were Cedar Lake Fire, Lowell Fire, Lake Dale Fire, Crown Point Fire, and Cedar Lake Police.
