Two Injured In Vehicle Rollover Crash In Munster
On Thursday, July 7, 2022, at approximately 1:30 PM, Officer Kevin Cooley of the Munster Police Department was traveling southbound in the 8100 block of Calumet Avenue, when he observed a Nissan S.U.V traveling northbound in the 8100 block of Calumet Avenue, in the center left turn lane, at a high rate of speed, according to Munster Police.
Before the officer could turn around and attempt to stop the Nissan, it struck a Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck, that was exiting the parking lot of 8131 Calumet Avenue westbound. Following the collision both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lanes of traffic on Calumet Avenue, blocking all lanes due to the large debris field.
Both drivers were transported to Community Hospital for treatment, and the crash remains under investigation.
Traffic was affected for approximately 1.5 hours. As of 3:00 p.m. all lanes of Calumet Avenue were open.
