Two Men Charged After Machine Guns and Marijuana Found Following Vehicle Pursuit
According to court documents, on July 25, 2025, at approximately 5:10 p.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy observed a gray Jeep traveling eastbound on 40th Avenue near Broadway with two occupants not wearing seat belts. As the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and turned south onto Massachusetts Street without signaling. The roadway dead-ended, forcing the Jeep to stop in front of 4050 Massachusetts. An object was observed being thrown from the rear passenger window just before the stop.
All four occupants were ordered to keep their hands visible and were asked for identification. The officer detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Detron Cason, 23, advised that he had a Glock on his person and an AR in the vehicle. Leandre Holley, 18, admitted he had marijuana in his backpack.
A search of the vehicle and surrounding area resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms and drugs:
• A Glock 31 .357 handgun located on Cason’s person, loaded
• An AR Pistol (Anderson AM-15) with a loaded extended magazine located on the rear floorboard; the firearm was equipped with an auto sear kit
• A Glock 9mm handgun located under the driver’s seat, loaded
• A Glock 22 Gen 4 recovered from a nearby yard where officers searched after observing an item thrown from the Jeep; this firearm also had an auto sear affixed to the barrel
Inside Holley’s backpack, officers discovered:
• Ten prepackaged bags of marijuana
• Two extended magazines for a .40 caliber handgun
• A drum magazine
• An additional bag of marijuana in Holley’s pocket
A criminal history check confirmed Holley is a convicted felon for a firearm offense in Illinois, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. All occupants were read their Miranda Rights and stated they understood. Cason and Holley were taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail.

Cason and Holley remain lodged in the Lake County Jail.
