Two Overnight Homicides In Gary, Police Seek Info
On July 27, 2020 approximately 10:12 PM The Gary Police Department responded to a call of a gunshot victim in the 800 block of Ohio Street, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield of The Gary Police. Upon arrival officers observed a male black, 23 from Steger Illinois, with apparent gunshot wounds. The Lake County Coroner has identified this victim as Tomi Curry. Witnesses on scene stated shots were fired from outside of the residence by unknown person(s) striking the victim, Westerfield said. The victim was transported to the area hospital by ambulance where he was later declared deceased.
On July 27, 2020 approximately 11:58PM the Gary Police Department responded to a call for a gunshot victim in an apartment building in the 700 block of Madison Street. Upon arrival officers observed a male black, 22 from Gary, with an apparent gunshot wound. The Lake County Coroner has identified this victim as Kevon Pippins. The shots were fired from outside the residence by unknown person(s). The male was transported to the area hospital by ambulance where he was later declared deceased. An additional apartment was also struck by gunfire but no one in that apartment was injured, Westerfield stated.
