Two Shot In Shooting Near 80/94 In Hammond

Around 12 AM Saturday morning Hammond Police & Fire responded to the GoLo Gas Station at 173rd & Indianapolis Blvd for a crash with gun shot victims, according to radio traffic.

On arrival police found a van that had crashed into several poles and decorative lighting then came to a stop in the gas station. Two people were found shot in the van and transported to area hospitals.

Hammond Police learned the shooting occurred near 80/94 under the overpass where numerous caliber shell casing were discovered. Indianapolis Blvd was closed fully while police established two separate crime scenes. Around 30 rounds estimated were fired at the van from multiple weapons. Investigators are looking into the possibility of a road rage incident. They were traveling from an establishment in Schererville, Hammond Police said. Hammond police are working together with Illinois State police investigating whether a vehicle located in Illinois is connected.

One of the victims later succumbed to their injuries at Munster Community Hospital according to The Lake County Coroner. The victim was identified as Thomas L. Hill, 33, of Chicago. The female victim was transported to the hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.
