Two Shot Outside East Chicago Speedway Friday Night

On April 11, 2025, at approximately 10:50 PM, East Chicago Officers responded to Speedway Gas Station located at 3956 Guthrie Street in reference to shots fired, according to East Chicago Police Chief Jose Rivera.

Shotspotter alerted to 4 rounds being fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject lying on the ground behind a white Chrysler 300. The male subject was bleeding from his head from an apparent gunshot wound, Rivera said. Dispatch then advised officers that a second victim just walked into St. Catherine Hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound to his arm.

Victim #1 is a 23 year old male from Gary, Indiana. Victim #2 is a 22 year old male also from Gary, Indiana. Both males were subsequently transported from St. Catherine Hospital to a Chicago area hospital in serious but stable condition.

A handgun and shell casings were recovered from the scene. East Chicago Criminal Investigation Division is currently reviewing video footage of the incident and interviewing several witnesses.
