Two Teens Arrested After Striking Portage Police With Scooter
Portage Police were called to a home about suspicions from the homeowner that two juvenile brothers (15 & 16), relatives of the homeowner who were using alcohol and possibly had a party overnight while the homeowner was at work.
It was initially reported to police that both of the brothers started smashing things and punching holes in the walls so she called for police assistance. The teens took off from the house at that point, Portage Police told RNS. A Portage Officer found them in the area before being able to speak with the complainant, police said. This is where a citizen began recording a viral video of the confrontation with the officer.
When the Portage Officer found the two teens they both failed to stop for him and the officer had to chase after them. The officer was able to take hold of the younger brother (gray sweatshirt) who was compliant from that point but the older brother (black sweatshirt) was not complaint and began swinging a Razor Scooter at the officer.
After both teens were detained and officers spoke with the relative who called they were arrested on various charges. The older juvenile was charged with Battery to Law Enforcement, Resisting Arrest Resulting in Injury (the first officer hurt his wrist but returned to work after having a doctor check it out), Criminal Mischief (for damage he caused inside the relatives house), and being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol, Portage Police told RNS. The younger brother was charged with Possession of Marijuana. Both were transported to the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center.
