Two Wanted Men Arrested After Police Chase

On Friday November 20th at approximately 12:00 P.M., Michigan City Officer Adam Brinkman was in the area of Carroll Avenue and East Michigan Boulevard when he observed a white Suburban being driven by a subject who he recognized as having an active arrest warrant, according to Sgt. Cisco Rodriguez.

Officer Brinkman sought assistance from other police units who attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle being driven by Brian D. Young, 21, from Michigan City.

Young refused to stop for officers and led police on a short vehicle pursuit that ended in an alley in the 400 Block of Grace Street. Young exited the vehicle while it was still in motion, Rodriguez stated. The vehicle then crashed into K9 Officer Steve Wiegel’s police vehicle, which was parked. Officer Wiegel was treated and released for the complaint of pain. Officer Wiegel’s K9, Axel, was not injured. If Officer Wiegel’s vehicle had not been parked there, the Suburban would have struck a residence, Rodriguez added.

Young was pursued on foot entering a residence on Grace Street and was taken into custody. Officers also located Omar T. GLOVER, 20, of Michigan City within the residence. GLOVER was also found to have active arrest warrants.

Young was charged with his active warrants of Theft and Escape – Level 6-Felonies. Young was also charged with Resisting Law Enforcement Level 6-Felony & A-Misdemeanor, Criminal Recklessness Level 6- Felony and Possession of Marijuana B-Misdemeanor as a result of the pursuit.

Young is currently incarcerated at the La Porte County Jail and is being held with no bond.

GLOVER was charged with his active warrants of Leaving the Scene of an Accident B-Misdemeanor and Operating a Vehicle without a License C-Misdemeanor. GLOVER was released from the La Porte County Jail on Saturday and had a court appearance Monday.
