Update: Charges Filed on Kentucky Man After 1,150 Grams of Suspected Fentanyl Recovered in Traffic Stop
Nigel B. Beach, 33, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, has been charged after police seized an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 suspected fentanyl pills during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 near Lowell.
The stop occurred on May 21, 2025, when officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Highway Interdiction and Drug Task Force pulled over a southbound vehicle for a windshield obstruction and a moving violation. While Beach retrieved vehicle documents, officers observed a clear bag of suspected marijuana in the glove compartment. A subsequent probable cause search uncovered multiple plastic bags containing suspected fentanyl pills located on the floor of the vehicle.
The pills were marked with “M” and “30,” identifiers consistent with counterfeit oxycodone tablets that commonly contain fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Administration responded to the scene and took possession of the pills, which weighed approximately 1,150 grams with packaging.
Beach was released on May 27, 2025, after posting a $10,000 cash bond. His initial hearing is scheduled for June 9, 2025, in Jasper Superior Court.
Nigel B. Beach was formally charged on June 6, 2025, with:
- Dealing in a Narcotic Drug; Possess with Intent, over 10 grams (Level 2 felony)
- Dealing in a Narcotic Drug – Fentanyl; Possess with Intent, at least 7 grams (90-day total) (Level 2 felony)
- Possession of a Narcotic Drug; over 28 grams (Level 3 felony)
- Possession of Marijuana (Class B misdemeanor)
