Update On SWAT Standoff In Calumet City
On August 23, 2021 at approximately 4:20pm, Calumet City Police and Fire personnel responded to the 500 block of Sibley Boulevard for a report of an injured person, according to Calumet City Police.
Officers arrived on scene and located a 49 year old male with minor lacerations. The male victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was involved in an altercation with the occupants of a residence in the 500 block of Sibley Boulevard. During the altercation, one of the occupants of the residence displayed a firearm at the victim. The victim fled from the residence to a local business where he summoned the police, while the occupants remained at the residence.
Due to the involvement of firearms, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team was called in to assist the Calumet City Police Department. Sibley Boulevard is closed between Freeland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue as this scene is still ongoing as of 8PM.
