Valparaiso Man Charged After Entering Woman’s Apartment And Resisting Arrest

Valparaiso— A 32-year-old Valparaiso man is facing felony charges after police say he unlawfully entered a woman’s apartment, asked if she was alone with her children, and then barricaded himself in another unit when officers attempted to arrest him.

According to court documents, on September 26, 2025, around 7:08 p.m., Valparaiso Police responded to the 1900 block of Chicago Street in reference to a suspicious male entering an occupied apartment without permission. The tenant reported that Michael G. Dubois opened her unlocked door, stepped inside, and asked if she was alone with her children and if she needed anything. After she refused, Dubois allegedly left and went into another apartment within the same complex.

When officers arrived, they saw a man matching the description exit an apartment holding a cigarette. Police identified themselves and asked him to speak with them, but Dubois reportedly said “no” and retreated back inside, locking the deadbolt. Officers attempted to push the door as it was closing, but Dubois forced it shut. He then refused to come to the door and called officers “idiots” while demanding a search warrant.

Police later secured a warrant, returned with additional units, and forced entry into the apartment. Dubois was taken into custody without further incident.

Charges filed September 29,2025:

    •    Residential Entry (Level 6 felony)

    •    Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A misdemeanor)
