
Valparaiso Police Investigating Fatal Shooting: Highland Man in Custody
Valparaiso Police are actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday evening, June 2, 2025, in the 1900 block of Chicago Street. Officers responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. following reports of a male subject being shot.
Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Porter County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased as 24-year-old JayVeon Triplett of Valparaiso. An autopsy is pending.
Initial reports indicated that the suspect may have remained in the area or barricaded himself in a nearby apartment. As police secured the scene, the Porter County Emergency Response Team was deployed to assist with the search. Investigators quickly determined the suspect secured himself in an apartment nearby and were able to identify a potential location.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., police located the suspect, 24-year-old Kuran Kinley of Highland, in the 300 block of Indiana Avenue. Kinley was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Valparaiso Police Department. He was later booked into the Porter County Jail on preliminary charges of Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
