Vehicle Accident Sends One Car Into Dairy Belle
Around 2:12pm Monday a vehicle collision involving two cars at the corner of 171st & Calumet in Hammond sent the driver of one into Dairy Belle and damaging another waiting in the drive-thru. Only minor injuries were reported to the occupants of the cars and they were self treated according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police. No alcohol or drugs were involved, Kellogg stated. Luckily no customers were waiting in line in front of the store at the time or this could have been much worse.
The building itself suffered significant damage to the brick structure as well as the awning and structural poles holding it up. One employee was at the drive thru inside working the window when the bricks and freezer were pushed on top of her. She was not injured. Photo from inside.
Dairy Belle states they will be closed the rest of the Monday and unsure on the opening for the rest of the week.
