Vehicle Break In Suspects Caught With The Use Of Merrillville K9

On Saturday, 6/26/2021 Merrillville Police Officers responded to a call of vehicle break-ins in the 7400 Block of Chase Street, according to Assistant Chief Kosta Nuses. 

Merrillville Police told RNS multiple suspects were observed to be on bicycles breaking into parked vehicles.  Officers arrived on scene and located subjects on bicycles nearby and attempted to make contact with the suspects, Nuses said.  One of the suspects pedaled off, fleeing from officers and the other fled on foot. Shortly after Merrillville Police Cpl. Henry and his K9 partner Dozer were in the area and began tracking the suspect who fled on foot.  Cpl. Henry and Dozer were able to successfully track and locate the suspect who ran, Nuses said. The second suspect came back around on the bike and was apprehended. Another successful capture of suspects utilizing the towns new K9 division.

Both suspects were taken into custody. Charges are pending. Merrillville Police remind all residents to take anything of value inside and keep the vehicle locked.
