WATER MAIN BREAK & ROAD CLOSURE ALERT – PORTAGE
There is a 12-inch water main break on Central Avenue near the Portage Fire Station. Indiana American Water crews are already on scene making emergency repairs that began around 4:00 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 6).
Central Avenue is completely closed east and west of the Fire Station due to flooding.
Vivian and Hamstrom at Central are also closed.
The Portage Street Department has placed barricades and signage to warn drivers in advance.
💧 Boil Water Advisory in Effect:
Residents in the affected area may experience low water pressure or temporary service interruptions while repairs are underway.
- Please boil all water for drinking or cooking for at least 3 minutes.
- Water is safe for bathing, washing, and general use.
- The advisory is expected to remain in place for 24 hours, and residents will be notified when it is lifted.
Crews expect repairs to take approximately 12 hours to complete.
Mayor Austin Bonta extended thanks to Portage Police and the Street Department for their quick response early this morning to manage flooding and close the affected area safely.
Drivers are asked to avoid Central Avenue near the Fire Station and use alternate routes until the road is reopened.
