Wheatfield Man Charged After Stabbing Leaves Mother Injured

According to court documents, Jordan McLaughlin, 23, of Wheatfield, has been charged after a family fight escalated into a stabbing that left his mother with a serious arm injury.

Police reported they were called around 6:36 p.m. on August 26, 2025, to a home on West Central Avenue in Wheatfield for a stabbing. Officers arrived to find a woman with a blood-soaked towel around her arm and a tourniquet applied by her husband.

Witnesses told investigators that McLaughlin and his brother had been arguing throughout the day. The two began fighting in the deck bar area, and the brother struck McLaughlin several times, knocking him onto a grill. The fight moved inside, where McLaughlin allegedly grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen. As his mother tried to intervene, she was slashed in the arm.

Another sibling said he tried to separate the fight and called 911 after hearing the mother scream, “He has a knife.” She was treated for the wound while McLaughlin fled to his room before later attempting to apologize.

McLaughlin told police he was acting in self-defense, claiming he used the broad side of the knife to block punches and accidentally cut his mother. Officers described his statements as inconsistent with other accounts. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
