Wheatfield Woman Killed In Crash Thursday

On October 3rd, 2024, at approximately 4:46 PM, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a collision at the intersection of County Rd. 1100 N. and State Rd. 49, involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-tractor trailer, according to a press release Friday morning. Emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found the female driver of the passenger vehicle in serious condition. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Sylina R. Kuchta of Wheatfield, Indiana.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer, identified as 58-year-old Richard D. Farver of Mishawaka, Indiana, was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Sylina R. Kuchta, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling eastbound on County Rd. 1100 N. and approached a stop sign at State Rd. 49. At the intersection, her vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way to a northbound 2023 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer driven by Richard D. Farver, resulting in the collision.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to extensive damage. The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
