
Winfield Police Investigating Shooting Friday
On Friday, March 21, 2025, at approximately 9:00 AM, Officers from the Winfield
Police Department were dispatched to the 10300 block of Nelson Street in reference to a reported shooting, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, Officers located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Thereafter,
a female came to the Winfield Police Department, regarding the incident and
circumstances.

This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no identified threat to the public, according to Winfield Interim Chief Jordan Billups. However, an investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE – Wife shoots husband after finding divorce papers that were filed the day prior.

Kimberly M. Freeman was charged on March 22, 2025, with:
Aggravated Battery: F3 Felony
Domestic Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon: F5 Felony
Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury: F5 Felony
Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon: F6 Felony
Freeman is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
