Woman Allegedly High On Duster Lands In A Ditch After Swerving For A Turtle
On March 15, 2025, at approximately 12:30 PM, Porter County Police responded to the area of 50 S & 675 W, for a female subject that had gotten her car stuck in a water filled ditch and was actively huffing from an aerosol can, according to a police report.
Upon arrival of officers, they observed a white Chrysler in the ditch on the north side of 50 S. A female, later identified as Savanna Bielak, 29, of Hebron was still seated in the driver’s seat and appeared to be under the influence of something. Another woman was talking to Savanna outside the car.
Savanna advised officers she ran off the road when she swerved to miss a turtle. She said her vehicle got stuck in the mud and she was just waiting for a friend. Savanna’s speech was very slow slurred, according to the report. She seemed very lethargic and her motor skills were very slow, all consistent with signs of inhaling toxic vapors from air duster products.
Officers asked Savanna to exit the vehicle. As officers opened the passenger door Savanna stated that she wasn’t going to exit the car and police didn’t have the right to open her door. Officers advised Savanna they were going to conduct an investigation for impaired driving and then ordered her to exit the vehicle. She again refused and officers advised her they were going to remove her from the vehicle. Officers reached in to grab Savanna’s arm and she began to pull away. An officer secured her right arm at which time she grabbed the steering wheel with her left arm in an attempt to prevent them from removing her from the vehicle. Officers further advised Savanna if she continued to resist they would deploy a taser. After several warnings officers were able to secure Savanna’s left arm and remove her from the vehicle.
Officers spoke with Savanna’s friend who
advised Savanna’s father called her and advised her that she just left the house and was stuck in a ditch and huffing duster again. Her friend advised she came straight to the scene and found her in the ditch. Her friend further advised when she approached Savanna’s car she told her to get out of there but began huffing more. A full can of air duster which was cold to the touch indicating it was recently used was found in the car.
Upon arrival at the Porter County Jail, Savanna was turned over to jail staff for booking. Officers were advised
by Jail staff that Savanna had just bonded out of jail at 9:30 PM on 3/14/2025 after being arrested on an active warrant for Inhaling toxic vapors.
