Woman Arrested For False Informing About Abduction
On January 16, 2025, Valparaiso Police were made aware of a suspicious activity report filed with the Valparaiso University Police Department by one of their students on January 15, 2025.
The Valparaiso Police Department was not immediately notified of this situation by VUPD. The incident was reported to have occurred in the College-Hilltop neighborhood, alleging a female was attempting to be placed in a vehicle against her will by an unknown male.
Valparaiso Police took over the investigation today, aggressively pursuing the incident, traveling to Illinois to retrieve the reporting party to aid in the investigation.
Upon further interviewing the female, Vaidehi T. Patel (20, Northbrook, IL), it was learned she had falsified her statement to police, admitting she had met a known male subject as they had planned.
Patel was subsequently placed in custody on false informing charges and is being held at the Porter County Jail.
