Woman Carjacked In Highland Sunday

On Sunday, November 22nd at 12:06am, Highland Police were dispatched to the Pilot Gas Station, 8150 Indianapolis Blvd., for a report of a carjacking that had just occurred, according to Commander John Banasiak.

On arrival, officers spoke with the female victim (62 years old from Hammond, IN) who stated that she had just finished pumping gas into her silver 2016 Nissan Murano when she noticed a grey vehicle pull up to the other side of the pump that she was using. She advised she observed three younger black males in the vehicle. She advised she then turned around and as she was just about to get into her vehicle, two black males wearing all black with white ski masks then pushed her down to the ground. As she fell, her keys fell from her pocket and one male took her keys and entered the driver’s side door of her Nissan. The victim tried to pull the suspect from the driver’s seat of her Nissan and he punched her in the face, causing scrapes to her face. The two black males then fled northbound on Indianapolis Blvd. in the victim’s car and they were then followed by the unknown grey car. The victim did not require medical attention and at no time were any weapons displayed or inferred.

Police remind the public to always be aware of your surroundings and to lock your vehicle doors when fueling up or going inside convenience stores.
