
Woman Charged In EC Homicide
On April 28 2025, Detective Roger Escutia with the Indiana State Police and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force secured murder charges against Rena L. Dixon, 33, of East Chicago for Saturday morning’s homicide of Aaliyah Shewan, 27, of Aurora, Illinois.
East Chicago Police Officers were dispatched to the area of West 150th Street in East Chicago for a shot female being located there. The Lake County Coroner’s Office determined that the female was Aaliyah Shewan and died via homicide from a gunshot wound.
Over the weekend, witness statements and video evidence recovered pursuant to search warrants indicated that Rena Dixon shot and killed Aaliyah Shewan during an early morning gathering. Rena Dixon is currently in the Lake County Jail.
Dixon is charged is charged with murder and a felony firearm enhancement. She faces up to 85 years in prison if convicted.
Detective Escutia was assisted by other members of the Homicide Task Force, including with the Indiana State Police, the Indiana State Excise Police, the East Chicago Police Department, the Gary Police Department, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
All defendants are presumed innocent while cases are pending.
