Woman Killed In EC Homicide Friday
On Friday, 08/06/2021 at approximately 5:43 a.m. East Chicago Police Officer’s were dispatched to 4004 Fern Street in reference to a shot spotter alert, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera. Shot spotter alerted to 3 shots fired in the area followed by an additional 8 shots fired in the same area.
Officers arrived on scene and observed gunshot holes in the first floor picture window of 4004 Fern Street. Officers then approached the residence and observed the front door open. Officers announced their presence and entered the residence to check on the wellbeing of the residents.
Upon entering the residence Officers located an unconscious and unresponsive Hispanic female on the living room floor lying in a pool of blood. She appeared to have numerous gunshot wounds to the body, Rivera said. Next to her body was an AK47 style rifle with a drum magazine and several spent casings.
The Criminal Investigation Division and the Lake County Sheriff Department Crime Scene Unit were then called out to the scene to investigate. The victim was identified as 21 year old Angelica Casares of East Chicago.
