2 Dead In Fatal Crash In Gary Friday
On October 23, 2020 approximately 12:27 PM The Gary Police Department was dispatched to 5th Avenue and Colfax Street for an accident with injuries, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield of The Gary Police.
Upon arrival officers observed a tan Chrysler minivan with a 66-year-old male driver from Gary) and a white Freightliner semi with trailer with a 34-year-old male driver from Tonica, IL) in a collision.
Preliminary investigation shows the minivan made a left-hand turn in front of the semi, Westerfield stated. The driver of the minivan was transported with injuries and his condition is not known at this time. The two passengers in the minivan passed. A 40-year-old male passenger from Gary, was declared deceased on scene by the coroner’s office. The other passenger, a 38 year old male from Gary, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, according to Commander Jack Hamady. The victims have now been identified by The Lake County Coroner as Timothy Small, 38, of Gary and Collins Small, 40, of Gary.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is conducting the accident reconstruction. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time, police said.
