2 Year Old Shot In EC Friday In Critical Condition

On Friday, February 5, 2021 around 12:56 PM East Chicago Officers responded to the 3900 block of Fir Street in reference to a 2 year old being shot inside the home, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera of The East Chicago Police.

Officers arrived on scene and located the child with a single gunshot wound to the left side of his head. The child was bleeding from the head, but was conscious and crying, Rivera told RNS. The child was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in critical condition. The child was later transferred to Comers Children Hospital in critical condition.

According to family members on scene the child located his father’s gun in the house and accidently shot himself with it. The 2 year olds father, a 25 year old of East Chicago was brought in for questioning.
