CROWN POINT — A suspect accused of shooting a man in rural Jasper County was taken into custody Friday morning near a Crown Point hospital following a K-9-assisted search.

According to authorities, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department was notified around 7:13 a.m. on April 3 of a gunshot victim who had arrived at Franciscan Health Crown Point.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Jack Moore of Lake Village, suffered a single gunshot wound. Officials say his injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to survive.

Investigators allege that Christopher Jackson, 45, of DeMotte, shot Moore inside a vehicle in rural Jasper County following a verbal dispute. After the shooting, both men traveled to the hospital together, arriving shortly after 6 a.m.

Police say Jackson exited the vehicle upon arrival and walked toward U.S. 231, while Moore went inside the hospital for treatment.

Officers with the Crown Point Police Department were notified at approximately 6:46 a.m., prompting a brief lockdown of the hospital as officers began searching for the suspect.

Officer Evan Dinterman and his K-9 partner Blitz, along with additional Crown Point officers, located Jackson hiding in landscaping beneath the hospital sign near Mississippi Parkway and U.S. 231. He was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities say Jackson was armed with a firearm at the time of his arrest.

The suspect has been charged with the following:

Attempted Murder, Level 1 Felony
Armed Robbery, Level 2 Felony
Criminal Confinement, Level 3 Felony
Intimidation with a deadly weapon, Level 5 Felony
Theft, Level 6 Felony

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.
