21 Year Old Chesterton Female Killed In Collision In Illinois
The Will County Illinois Coroner is reporting the death of Olivia L. Porter, 21, of Chesterton who was pronounced deceased at 7:25 PM on Wednesday June 1, 2022 at the Intersection of Wilmington-Peotone Rd. and 104th Ave. in Peotone Township.
Ms. Porter was involved in a motor vehicle collision, according to a release. The Will County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the collision.
Will County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of a three-vehicle accident at 3:30 PM, June 1, 2022. Deputies arrived at Wilmington-Peotone Road, just west of 104th Avenue in Peotone Township, along with Peotone Fire Department personnel. Peotone Fire advised that the driver of a 2019 Nissan Rouge was deceased and the Coroner’s Office was contacted.
Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators completed a traffic accident reconstruction. Initial reports indicate that Olivia Porter, age 21, of Indiana, was traveling westbound on Wilmington-Peotone Road, following a slower moving semi-tractor trailer. Porter attempted to pass the semi in the eastbound lane but caught the edge of the pavement and hit the gravel. Also in the eastbound lane was a 2007 Mack Tractor fuel tanker, driven by a 56-year-old man from Braidwood. Porter attempted to correct her vehicle and get back into the westbound lane at the same time the semi-driver attempted to stop his vehicle and went into the westbound lane to avoid the collision with the Nissan. However, the driver side front of the semi crashed into the Nissan, causing it to be pushed into a ditch.
The third vehicle, a 2006 Acura, driven by a 46-year-old male, was traveling west and had to take evasive action in order to avoid the collision and drove into the north side ditch into a cornfield.
The Acura driver and Mack Truck driver were not injured.
The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date, pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports.
