21 Year Old Woman Found Dead In Street

UPDATE

The Lake County Prosecutors Homicide Task Force & Gary Police filed charges for the murder of 21-year-old Diamond Manning that occurred on March 2, 2024.

Detectives this week arrested former girlfriend of Diamond, Leveda Boyd, 40, of Gary. According to charging affidavits detectives utilized LPR cameras, security camera footage, and phone records to build a case on the former girlfriend of Diamond Manning.

In recent weeks the couple was going through a break up and Boyd was not happy with Diamond seeing other people. Boyd made this very clear in text messages obtained by police as well as multiple social media posts. Boyd’s vehicle was also placed in front of Diamonds house the night of the murder. Detectives were able to pinpoint Boyd’s movements that night utilizing Gary’s License Plate Readers and business security camera footage minutes leading up to the shooting.

When questioned by detectives Boyd’s responses and detailed timeline of that nights events did not match up with the evidence already obtained. Boyd’s story changed multiple times during questioning as well, according to charging documents. Phone records also indicated an argument prior to the shooting. It should also be noted Diamond’s phone was not found at the crime scene on 30th & Jefferson where she was found shot to death in the street. It was later learned that Boyd had taken her phone and disabled the GPS in what is believed to be an attempt to make it seem like she was not around Diamond during the crime. She also sent a text to herself well after the Diamond was deceased.

Shortly after the news broke of Diamond being found, Boyd commented on the Region News post saying, “Hell naw don’t believe this shyt this is my ex’s” Boyd’s profile also made it seem as if she worked as a correctional officer which in fact was also false.

Boyd was charged with Murder with Felony Firearm Enhancement. She is currently lodged at the Lake County Jail with no bail. She faces up to 85 years in prison if convicted.
