3 Year Old Shot Three Times Overnight
On February 3, 2021 approximately 2:45 AM Gary Officers responded to the 1700 block of East 7th Ave in regards to a child who was shot, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield of The Gary Police.
Upon arrival officers were informed a 3-year-old male had suffered three gunshot wounds. The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment. The mother of the child was at work when the incident occurred. The person in charge of the children at the time of the incident is being questioned by investigators.
No further information is being released at this time, Westerfield stated.
“While Gary Police Department takes every shooting incident seriously, when an innocent child is shot the incident is of highest priority,” Chief Brian Evans stated. “Gary Police Department investigators are diligently pursuing information related to the shooting of a 3-year-old boy early this morning in Gary. The community can rest assured the Gary Police Department is dedicating the full weight of our resources to the investigation and determining exactly how this child came to be shot,” Evans added.
