Otto Gabriel Proud, 36, of Hebron, and Casan Patrick Bogan, 45, of Kouts were each charged June 24, 2026, in LaPorte Circuit Court following an alleged burglary attempt at a residence in rural LaPorte County.

According to court records, deputies with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at approximately 4:51 a.m. on June 23 after the property owner reported seeing two men on surveillance cameras attempting to enter a residence in the 22500 block of South U.S. Highway 421. The caller told police the property had previously been targeted by burglars.

When deputies arrived, they located a white Chevrolet Silverado parked behind trees in what investigators said appeared to be an effort to conceal it from passing motorists. Inside the truck, deputies reported finding a backpack, bolt cutters and wire strippers.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Proud emerged from the front door area of the residence and was taken into custody. A short time later, Bogan emerged from another side of the home and was also detained. Deputies then cleared the residence and discovered damage to the front door, including splintered wood around the deadbolt.

Investigators said the property owner advised that the door had been secured before the incident and that surveillance cameras and “No Trespassing” signs had been installed after previous thefts at the property. Deputies also reported locating a boot print on the damaged front door.

Lodged in the Laporte County Jail.
