Upon arrival officers observed a shattered front window and blood droplets on scene appearing as if the suspect might be injured, Hein stated. Officers began tracking the suspect utilizing Dyer K9 “Rocco” to follow a blood trail & scent to the intersection of Fairview & Georgia where a suspect was located bleeding from a serious laceration. Dyer Police Officers immediately applied a tourniquet for life saving measures till Dyer Fire & EMS arrived.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and later flown out to Chicago for further treatment due to the severity of the injury, Hein said. “If the officers had not worked so diligently in locating the juvenile and rendering medical attention the situation may have had a different outcome, they did a great job,” Hein said.
