A Valparaiso woman is being held on a preliminary murder allegation after Porter County Sheriff’s Police discovered a deceased person during a well-being check Sunday evening in Morgan Township.

According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, patrol officers were dispatched at approximately 7:56 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, to a residence located south of Division Road on County Road 450 East for a well-being check.

When officers arrived, they located a deceased individual inside the home.

The Porter County Emergency Response Team responded to the scene and took one person into custody without incident. Investigators said the case appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

On Monday, the Sheriff’s Office identified the person taken into custody as Serena Dolnics, 32, of Valparaiso. She is currently being held on a 48-hour hold for murder, with formal charges expected to be filed by the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Porter County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

​The Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Gregory Dolnics (DOB 10/6/1956) of Valparaiso, Indiana.

As with all criminal cases, the allegation is only an accusation, and Serena Dolnics is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
