Merrillville Police Activate MTAS Team
On 11/2/2023 at approximately 6:30 PM, Merrillville Patrol Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of W 78th Avenue. Officers located a female who had been significantly battered by a male suspect at a nearby residence. The suspect fired a shot during this incident and was possibly barricaded in a residence.
Patrol units then requested the assistance of MTAS (Merrillville Tactical Apprehension Squad) at the scene.
MTAS members and negotiators arrived on scene and began to try and make contact with the suspect. They attempted to make contact with the suspect for several hours, but were unsuccessful. MTAS members then entered the house and verified that the suspect had already fled the scene.
Merrillville detectives were able to search the residence and locate evidence in reference
to this incident.
This is an ongoing investigation and detectives will be presenting this case to the
Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.
